2024 Oscars: British Stars Carey Mulligan and Emily Blunt Snub Barbie in Nominations – Surprising Twist!

Oppenheimer star Cillian Murphy continues his success, nominated for Best Actor at the 96th Academy Awards

Carey Mulligan and Emily Blunt top the list of British Oscar nominees, while Irish Oppenheimer star Cillian Murphy continues his awards season success.

Nominations for the 96th Academy Awards were announced live from Los Angeles on Tuesday afternoon.

Oppenheimer, director Christopher Nolan’s epic biopic of atomic bomb developer J. Robert Oppenheimer, won 13 awards, including Best Actor for Murphy.

Murphy, who plays the title role, received his first Oscar nomination. He has already won a Golden Globe Award for this role. Jeffrey Wright in “American Fiction” and Paul Giamatti, who won praise for his role as a grumpy preparatory teacher forced to stay on campus during vacation with a troubled student in the drama “Holdovers,” and Brad. Co-stars with Lee Cooper. Coleman Domingo was praised for his work on Leonard Bernstein’s biography “Maestro” and his performance as Martin Luther King Jr.’s advisor and activist Bayard Rustin.

She faces competition from American actress Davin Joy Randolph, who previously won numerous awards for her role as Chef in The Holdovers.

Other actors include Daniel Brooks in The Color Purple, based on the 1982 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker, and Jodie for her role in the sports drama Nyad, about the life of athlete Diana Nyad.・Foster and Barbie doll America Ferrera are also included in this category.

Meanwhile, British star Mulligan is nominated for Best Actress for her role as Leonard Bernstein’s wife Felicia Montealegre in “The Maestro.” This will be her third Oscar nomination. She was Sandra Haller in Anatomy of a Fall, Annette Bening in Mead, Emma Stone in Poor Things, and Lily Gladd in Killers of the Flower Moon. He is co-starring with Stone.

Oppenheimer’s other nominations included Robert Downey Jr., who won Best Supporting Actor for his role as Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Lewis Strauss. This is his third Oscar nomination.

Oppenheimer also won Best Picture, and British director Nolan won his second Best Director award. He has previously lost five Oscars in various categories for his work on Memento, Inception and Dunkirk. In 2024, he will collaborate with fellow British director Jonathan Glazer on “The Zone of Interest,” a film about a German family living next door to the Auschwitz concentration camp.

Also joining the cast are Justine Triet for the French legal drama Anatomy of a Fall, Martin Scorsese for the Western crime thriller Killers of the Flower Moon, and Yorgos Lanthimos for Poor Things. Nominated in this category.

The Gothic fairy tale comedy “Poor Things” won a total of 11 awards, placing him in second place after Oppenheimer.

Ryan Gosling was nominated for Best Supporting Actor and won Best Original Song for “I’m Just Ken.” This follows his viral Critics’ Choice reaction to winning in the same category last week. Surprisingly, Barbie herself, Margot Robbie, and the film’s director Greta Gerwig did not receive nominations. The same goes for Leonardo DiCaprio, who stars in Killer of the Flower Moon.

British films Saltburn and All of Us Strangers were also completely excluded.

Nominations for the 96th Academy Awards were announced Tuesday by Atlanta star Zazie Beetz and The Boys actor Jack Quaid ahead of the annual awards ceremony hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.

The Oscar ceremony will be broadcast in the UK from midnight on March 11th.
